Within the framework of the BoscAran project, funded by Fundación Biodiversidad of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, technical workshops were held on November 5 and 6, aimed at municipal managers and technicians who support local entities that own public forests.
Last week, the Aran Valley hosted technical workshops focused on forest revitalization. On the first day, technicians from the Forest Science and Technology Centre of Catalonia (CTFC) presented the current situation of forest management in public forests, the BoscAran project, district heating networks and wood construction, and the operation of the wood-harvesting cable. On November 6, the participants went on a field visit to the Sèuva e Casteret forest, managed by the Les Town Council, to learn more about the use of the wood-harvesting cable.

During these days, around forty people learned first-hand about the practical objectives of the project, focused mainly on boosting forest management in the Aran Valley municipalities, with a model that can be replicable in other mountain areas.
Many town councils are now starting or resuming the management of their forests in order to improve resilience to climate change, prevent wildfires, enhance biodiversity, or generate economic activity.

With its process of consensus and political determination, strategic planning, hiring of forest engineers as facilitators, activation of grant applications to carry out forest improvements, mobilization of timber for construction and biomass to heat entire villages, implementation of cutting-edge silviculture and mechanization techniques adapted to the energy transition to achieve emission neutrality, the Aran Valley serves as an example, making its model comprehensive and applicable in other municipalities in the country.
The BoscAran project
BoscAran is a transformative project for the promotion of the bioeconomy linked to the forest sector and its contribution to the ecological transition. The project is led by the Conselh Generau d’Aran and the Forest Science and Technology Centre of Catalonia (CTFC), in collaboration with the Bonansa Town Council and the associations ELFOCAT and esMontañas, which brings together about 400 forest-owning municipalities.
BoscAran has the support of the Fundación Biodiversidad of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), funded by the European Union–NextGenerationEU.
