From lab to forest: partners validate SINTETIC’s traceability technologies on the ground

11 March 2026

The partners of the SINTETIC project, coordinated by the Forest Science and Technology Centre of Catalonia (CTFC), gathered for the project’s Annual Meeting in Florence (Italy) from March 3 – 5, 2026. Hosted at the historic Osservatorio Ximeniano, consortium members reviewed progress and drafted out the next steps to increase transparency, monitoring, and data reliability along the entire wood value chain.

On March 5th, participants travelled to San Godenzo for a field demonstration organized by Foresta Modello Montagne Fiorentine, CNR IBE – Institute of Bioeconomy, and Bluebiloba Startup Innovativa. The session allowed partners to test several technologies developed within SINTETIC in a forest environment.

TreeScanner is an application developed by Arboreal that uses smartphone LiDAR sensors to rapidly measure and assess trees in the field. At the same time, Simtrona has develped RFID tags that give each log a unique identifier allowing to keep track of individual logs from the standing tree, through the supply chain, to the final product. These tools represent important steps toward enhancing the traceability of timber flows, supporting better documentation, monitoring, and management throughout the wood supply chain.
